Hurricane Relief
When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita impacted so many lives in 2005, DLA Piper attorneys and staff donated funds, time, and legal services to help survivors. Beyond the $622,000 donated to the American Red Cross and Feeding America (formerly known as America's Second Harvest), our attorneys and staff also provided the following non-legal support:
- Delivered food and supplies into some of the neediest areas of Louisiana and Mississippi immediately following the flooding.
- Helped the American Red Cross obtain blood donations in Northern Virginia.
- Sorted items for local food banks in Washington, DC, Silicon Valley and San Francisco for delivery to evacuees in each city.
- Contributed supplies and money for Metropolitan Ministries and the Salvation Army in Tampa, as well as clothing, shoes and temporary housing for displaced families in Chicago.
- Provided office space in Chicago for a displaced attorney from New Orleans. The firm worked with the American Bar Association and Louisiana Bar Association to locate Louisiana attorneys and facilitated efforts to provide working environments for them at no cost.
- Rescued pet victims left behind in the storms.
